A New Model of Reality Summary—This essay presents a radical new view of reality that parallels the movie The Matrix. It offers up the idea that reality is holographic—so that the Moon does not exist when no one is looking at it. Quotation—All the choir of heaven and furniture of earth—in a word all those bodies which compose the mighty frame of the world—have not any substance without the mind. So long as they are not perceived by me, or do not exist in my mind or in the mind of any spirit, they have no existence whatsoever. —Bishop George Berkeley In the 1999 movie The Matrix the leader of the rebellion Morpheus awakens the recruit Neo to a new world of a ravaged wasteland where mankind has been captured by machines. They have turned humans into a source of energy by imprisoning their minds in an artificial reality known as the Matrix. It is the simulation of a future world as it was in 1999 where the power of human minds are placated and harvested. Neo has been living in the Matrix since birth and it has been driving him mad like a splinter in his mind. Morpheus and his crew belong to a group of rebels who hack into the Matrix and unplug enslaved humans so they can rebel against the machines. Morpheus believes Neo is the savior of mankind and Neo battles within himself to determine whether he is the one. Morpheus tells Neo, “The Matrix is a system. That system is our enemy. But when you’re inside, you look around, what do you see—businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters—the very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system, and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so innered, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will fight to protect it.” The Matrix Has You. Imagine watching a movie with plenty of special effects like The Matrix so that the movie imitates reality and represents metaphors operating on three levels. (1) Consider the question that if you believe the movie is a production created for our benefit, then why do you believe reality is any different? (2) The Matrix has human bodies existing outside itself that are plugged in so that they appear as holograms inside the Matrix. (3) Consider that current events are consciously recorded and can be accessed by referencing the spacetime coordinates of prior events—a process known as retrocognition. (1) Reality Benefits. Consider that fourteen billion years ago the big bang seemingly produced the trillion, billion stars in the universe out of nothing. The conservation of energy law states that energy in a system can neither be created nor destroyed. We know from Einstein that matter and energy are just different forms of the same thing. So where did all those stars come from? I would argue that they are not really there but are just like projections of light inside a planetarium. The energy inside the universe comes from the miracle of life—which the Matrix captures as a source of power. The universe is basically an incubator that has us lying in a crib with a mobile of stars, planets and moons dangling above. Physicists believe that nothing is created without scaffolding. As such, reality as we know it is simply a construct produced by a Matrix-like system for the purpose of growing our minds and souls. (2) Holograms. A hologram is simply a four-dimensional spacetime image. Einstein said, “There is no more commonplace statement to make than the world in which we live in is a four-dimensional spacetime continuum.” He also said, “God is the sum total of the laws of nature.” The theory of one reveals that God, Souls and Forms exist eternally at the boundary of the universe. Since God is eternal, She has access to all the laws of nature including holographic technology from the past, present and future—and is capable of facilitating holograms. The Matrix and the other superb 1999 science fiction film The Thirteenth Floor show how the bodies of participants stay outside the system while their minds are transferred inside. So everything inside the system is a holographic creation except for their minds. This holographic production animates the laws of nature with electrons leaping in and out of spacetime without limit. The new model of reality being presented here is based on the fact that the universal boundary acts like a movie screen on which we perceive reality. (3) Retrocognition. Scientists have been unable to map specific regions of the brain to specific memories. Regarding memories, Michael Talbot wrote, “The past is not lost, but still exists in some form that is accessible to human perception. As the present unfolds and then becomes part of the past, it continues to exist.” Following Talbot, I would argue that the history of perceived reality is still intact as holograms and can be recalled by inputting the spacetime coordinates into the brain. The physical brain houses the metaphysical mind. The brain is a temporal receiver that allows us to remember historical events in the mind. Just like a radio receives data over space, the brain receives data over time. Imagine watching The Matrix and rewinding to a time in the movie to revisit a given scene. We plug the time of interest into the movie player and it takes us back to the requested hologram. The brain/mind works in the same way as the movie in that it references the trail of holograms that capture our entire personal, perceived histories. Our metaphysical minds may travel backwards in time—but not our physical bodies. The Boundary Medium. Just like the movie screen provides a surface or medium to support images; so too does the boundary between spacetime and nothingness provide the medium that supports waves and particles of light and matter. One hundred and twenty years ago physicists came up with the notion of ether as the medium that supports both waves and particles. Einstein proved that ether does not exist—but he did not identify the medium that does support waves and particles. My theory of one reveals that the universe is bounded right in front of our eyes. This boundary between spacetime and nothingness is the medium that supports waves and particles just like the surface between ocean and air supports waves and particles. Dolphin-like electrons jump in and out of the ocean of spacetime and create probability waves at this boundary of spacetime. The probability waves determine where the electrons will likely re-enter spacetime with the wave crests being the highest probability. Electrons paint a picture of reality that is an illusion. They weave in and out of spacetime and generate the tapestry that is perceived reality. Thus the answer to Einstein’s question as to whether the Moon really exists when no one is looking at it is an emphatic no. In fact, the Moon does not actually exist even when someone is looking at it as it is only an illusion. The Computer Model. Remember that God is the sum total of the laws of nature. Consider again the Moon. The computer of our brain/mind accesses the Moon’s parameters from the hard disk (innate reality or subspace) and then calculates—based on the laws of nature—the perception of the Moon onto a four-dimensional screen that surrounds each of us (perceived reality). The screen is the boundary between spacetime and nothingness and reality is presenting itself to our newborn minds by way of some very hardworking dolphin-electrons. Freeman Dyson said, “Electrons are active agents making conscious choices.” Our brains are made up of matter that contains our minds which are composed of swirling vortices of energy. The brain is the hardware of the computer and the mind is the software. The Holographic Universe. Michael Talbot wrote in his 1991 book The Holographic Universe, “There is evidence to suggest that our world and everything in it—from snowflakes to maple trees to falling stars—are only ghostly images, projections from a level of reality so far beyond our own it is literally beyond spacetime.” Lincoln Barnett wrote in his 1948 book, The Universe and Dr Einstein, “Gradually philosophers and scientists have arrived at the startling conclusion that since every object is simply the sum of its qualities, and since qualities exist only in the mind, the whole objective universe of matter and energy, atoms and stars, does not exist except as a construction of the consciousness—an edifice of conventional symbols shaped by the senses of man.” The theory of one now reveals the scientific foundation on which this holographic universe is based. It tells us that the universe is bounded at both light speed and Planck’s constant. Inside the boundary lies spacetime and outside the boundary lies nothingness. The boundary itself acts like a movie screen where reality is painted onto with brushstrokes of electrons. The screen represents all of the perceived senses including gravity and not just vision. Rejecting Reality. Consider the following monologue from Morpheus to Neo that rejects reality. “You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees because he is expecting to wake up. And you are here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life. That there is something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but its there, like a splinter in your mind driving you mad. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth. Like everyone you are a slave. You were born into bondage, born into a prison you cannot smell or taste or touch—a prison for your mind.” Conclusion. This essay presents a radical new model of reality that meets with the universal facts as we know them. What is the true nature of reality? This is the question that physicists must answer instead of hiding behind foolish ideas like string theory. The time has come for them to face the elephant in the room and come together to answer this question of what is the true nature of reality. I contend that my new model of reality presented here represents the starting point on the way to answering this monolithic question. |
